Joy Gordon, Ph.D., J.D.
Joy Gordon, Ph.D., J.D., is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Fairfield University. A specialist in political philosophy and international law, she holds a law degree from Boston University School of Law and a doctorate in philosophy from Yale. She has spent several years researching the economic sanctions imposed on Iraq following the first Gulf War, and has become a recognized expert on the subject. She is the author of numerous articles about the ethics of sanctions, and is working on A Peaceful, Silent, Deadly Remedy: The Ethics of Economic Sanctions, a book currently under contract with Harvard University Press, . She has been interviewed by various media outlets for her perspective on Iraq sanctions, including the BBC, National Public Radio's Counterspin, Between the Lines, and Democracy Now. She is also a frequent lecturer on sanctions, foreign policy, and international ethics. Her recent presentations include appearances at Brown University's Faculty Seminar and Watson Institute for International Relations, Bryant College, and Brandeis University's International Center for Ethics, Justice, and Public Life.
